Class XII Educational Trip to Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Vaishali

Alumni Interaction Session
To complement the classroom curriculum on history, culture, and ethics, the students of Class XII of Delhi Public School embarked on an educational and recreational excursion to the ancient city of Vaishali, Bihar. The primary goal of the trip was to visit the iconic Vishwa Shanti Stupa, providing students with a tangible connection to India's rich spiritual and historical heritage, and encouraging reflection on the principles of peace and non-violence. The photo opportunities set a collaborative, light-hearted tone for the day. The journey commenced early in the morning, marked by an atmosphere of eager anticipation. The students, accompanied by their teachers, travelled in comfortable buses. Throughout the journey, the students talked, laughed, and created countless memories.

The drive itself was a pleasant break from routine, offering glimpses of rural life and changing landscapes. The energy was high, filled with engaging discussions. This communal experience reinforced bonds and prepared the students for the historical immersion ahead. Vaishali holds a pivotal place in world history, not just Indian history. It was the capital city of the Licchavi, regarded as one of the world's first republics, functioning around the 6th century BCE, offering a profound insight into early democratic systems discussed in civics and history lessons. More critically, Vaishali is a sacred site for both Buddhism and Jainism. It is renowned as the city where Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born, and where Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon before his Mahaparinirvana (final passing). Visiting such a site brought the abstract historical concepts studied in textbooks to life. The climax of the excursion was the visit to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa . Standing as a brilliant white, towering structure, the Stupa (or Peace Pagoda) is a powerful symbol of peace, constructed by the Japanese Buddhist organization, Nipponzan Myohoji. Upon reaching the site, the students were immediately struck by the serene and tranquil environment. The Stupa is situated amidst lush greenery, offering a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life.

The structure itself is breathtaking, with four golden statues of the Buddha depicting his various life stages and teachings, facing the four cardinal directions. A special highlight of the day was the fun the students experienced together as a class. From playing together to sharing snacks, the whole trip felt like a refreshing escape. The school provided the students with an elaborate lunch with cake and ice cream, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. After lunch, children roamed around the gardens, joked with friends, and soaked in the calm surroundings. The Class XII excursion to Vaishali was an overwhelming success, fulfilling its dual objectives of educational enrichment and providing a much-needed break for the senior students. The visit to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa offered a unique opportunity to pause, reflect on the tenets of peace and shared global history, and appreciate India's profound cultural depth. The insights gained from seeing these ancient landmarks and the World Peace Pagoda firsthand will undoubtedly remain a valuable takeaway for the students as they prepare for higher education and future civic responsibility.
