National Voters’ Day - 25th January

The Department of Social Science, Delhi Public School, Patna organised a comprehensive Voter Awareness Programme to commemorate National Voters’ Day on 25 January 2026. The programme was conducted for students of Classes VI to XII from 21 January to 29 January 2026, aligning with the Social Science curriculum, where elections and democratic processes form a significant academic component. The extended duration enabled students to actively engage in diverse activities and gain experiential exposure to democratic practices. The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about the importance and power of voting in a democratic system. It also aimed to familiarise students with the Indian electoral process, the role and functioning of the Election Commission of India, and the significance of democratic values, civic responsibility, and respect for the Constitution of India.

Through interactive discussions and activities, students were encouraged to adopt ethical, informed, and responsible voting behaviour, nurturing them as future responsible citizens. Structured classroom discussions were conducted by Social Science teachers of Classes VI to VIII and History and Political Science teachers of Classes IX to XII. Key themes included the importance of voting, teachers’ first-time voter experiences, consequences of voter apathy, ethical voting, the role of youth in democracy, and the need to reject fake news and inducements. Students were also sensitised to the importance of informed voting and concepts such as Special Intensive Revision (SIR), enabling them to connect theory with real-life democratic practices. An informative exhibition at the Assembly Plaza showcased the history of National Voters’ Day, timelines of Indian elections, facts related to women and first-time voters, and the significance of ethical voting. The visual displays attracted wide student participation and enhanced conceptual clarity. A Mock Election was conducted at class and section levels to provide hands-on understanding of the electoral process.

Students experienced each stage—nomination, campaigning, voting, and counting—using ballot papers, voters’ lists, and ink-mark simulations. Creative expression was encouraged through Poster Making and Slogan Writing, focusing on themes such as Power of One Vote and My Vote, My Right. The activity “My First EPIC” helped students understand voter registration by creating mock Electors Photo Identity Cards. A quiz on the Indian electoral system further reinforced learning and promoted peer leadership. Overall, the programme successfully sensitised students to democratic values and responsible citizenship through meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
