DRAMATIQUÉ – TAKSHILA ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL

 

“All the world is stage...and men and women merely players” (William Shakespeare).


Going by the great dramatist and poet’s declaration, the school would be a miniature stage , where the students do the mantle of the character they play. They display their oratorical and acting proves besides other skills. This provided the much needed opportunity to the students of different schools to enact some of the famous plays : the court scene Quality of Mercy’ from Shakespeare’s ‘Merchant of Venice” and “The Bishop’s Candlestick” were revived on the stage. A welcome note was delivered by Neha Singh of Class IX highlighting the significance of revivalism of theatre and dramatics.The plays were presented by the students of altogether following five schools before a panel of accomplished judges in the assembly plaza of DPS Patna.

1. St. Karens Secondary School, Danapur--- The Bishop’s Candlesticks by Norman Mckinnell
2. Army School Danapur Cantt. Patna- In the Grip of Time by Vijay Konch( a teacher of the school)
3. DPS Patna --- Merchant of Venice ( Scene-Quality of Mercy) by William Shakespeare
4. DAV Walmi--- The Voice of Conscience by Prashant Kumar Bhuyan( a teacher of the school)
5. Gyan Niketan Patna ---- The Bishop’s Candlestick by Norman Mckinnell

The plays were adjudged on various grounds such as choice of play, casting and interpretation of character roles, movement and spatial grouping of characters, body language and facial expression, costume and make-up &speech (clarity, audibility, voice modulation).

Mr Rishikesh Sulabh, a great poet, playwright and novelist and the recipient of ‘Indu Sharma Katha International Award’ in July 2010, cherished the memories of being associated with theatre and all India Radio. Mr Sanjay Upadhyay, one of the famous theatre personalities and founder of Nirman Kala Manch, advised students to be a part of theatre in order to accomplish discipline in life. The third judge, Dr Shankar Ashish Dutt, Deptt. Of English Patna University and Festival Director, emphasised on the advantages of associating oneself with theatre. The School Principal, Mr B.Vinod, expressed his gratitude to the distinguished audience through his enlightening speech aptly on the occasion.
