Foot Prints in the Sand - Poetry Recitation

International World Water Day is held annually on 22nd March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. The year 2013 has been declared as ‘The international year of water cooperation’. The united nation has decided the objective to raise awareness on the potential of cooperation and challenges facing water management. Keeping this in mind the Thursday activity for class two was based on this theme. It was a recitation competition. Students recited poems related to this theme. There were nine groups and each group of students presented different poems on water. Poems presented were, “Little drops of water”, “Water is turbulent”, “Magic of water”, “Water is for everyone” and many more. The students were wearing headgears related to the topic. The audiences were also ready with their headgears and cheering materials to cheer their team members. The ambience looked beautiful. Headmistress announced the winners of the competition towards the end. She also applauded the class for their cheering material and discipline. This activity made the children aware about water conservation and made everyone aware why it was important to keep our future safe.
