“AYE WATAN TERE LIYE” AT BEUR JAIL - AUGUST 15, 2010

The fervour of patriotism is evident everywhere on the momentous occasion on Independence Day. The same could be felt at Beur Jail as the students of class XI and XII along with their class teachers and subject teachers of Delhi Public School, Patna reached there to celebrate the 64th Independence Day. There were altogether 130 students present to witness the programme. The event was organized by Takshila Education society that has always endeavored to revive and uplift Indian art and cultural through its regular classical programmes. “Aye Watan Tere Liye”, as the title suggests, was based on patriotic songs sung by the prison inmates, students, teachers and staff of DPS, Patna. Anchoring of the programme was done by Jaswant Singh, a young prison inmate under the guidance of Ms. Neelam Prabha. The programme started with a recitation of a beautiful poem in Hindi by Shambhavi and Ayush Mallick of class X. Music is one of the best ways to express feelings. To show the feelings of joy, compassion & patriotism there was a soulful presentation by the students, teachers of the music department and outsource staff. The jail inmates were also very enthusiastic & elated and came up with a beautiful presentation. The music and the art department of Delhi Public School, Patna had spent the past seven days preparing the prison inmates for this programme. The cooperation extended by the inmates made this event possible. They rendered numbers like Hind ke jawano jago', Mera rang de basanti chola','Ye desh hai veer jawano ka,’ Main gareebo ka dil ho',’Aya desh ke dularo ucha rahe tiranga’,’ Arun yeh madhumay desh hamara’ and so on with ease. The entire team of students, teachers, staff and inmates sang enthusiastically spreading patriotic fervour. To add to the glory of the function the inmates with the help of the art department of DPS decorated the venue. The arena of the function was decorated with Tricolours by the inmates of Beur Jail IG prison Mr. Ramesh Lal, Prison Superintendent Mr. Om Prakash Gupta, Jailer Mr. A.K. Sinha were amongst the dignitaries who were present to witness the programme. The IG Prison praised the efforts of Takshila Education Society and prison inmates for presenting such a a wonderful show and said that such programmes would help the inmates in becoming better citizens and reducing their population in the jail. Superintendent and Jailor Beur Jail also spoke on the occasion. They also appreciated the initiative of Takshila Society and hoped that it would go a long way in improving society. The day ended with a note of acknowledgement by the Principal Mr. B.Vinod. It was a memorable day not only in the history of Beur Jail but also for Takshila Education Society. Takshila Society expressed its willingness to continue similar efforts in future.
