The occasion was the final round of Project SAPTAK, where 25 groups presented their projects on the theme biodiversity before a panel of accomplished judges, Mr Abhay Kumar-The Director of Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park Patna, Mr Arvinder Singh- The Director of Horticulture Old Secretariat Patna and Dr Dilip Kumar Paul- The Assistant Professor of Zoology Department Patna University, in the arena of DPS Patna’s Senior Wing. The theme of SAPTAK was ‘biodiversity’; very much in association with the International Year of Biodiversity and the all-pervasive issue these days i.e. conservation of biodiversity. The name ‘SAPTAK’ is a term from music that means a collection of seven musical notes, each of which is essential for the collection. The programme started at 8.50 AM with the recital of the shloka Shubham karoti kalyanam and the mellifluous rendition of Rabindra Sangeet to mark the year of 150th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The song was Chaand ki hansi baandh toote re, and it regaled the entire audience. Rakshit Ranjan of Class IX H delivered a welcome note highlighting the theme of Saptak. It was followed by an address by the School Principal, who welcomed the distinguished guests and enlightened the august gathering. The 25 finalist groups began with their presentations. The audience appreciated them as their creativity and scientific temper fanned out vibrantly. Each presentation was followed by questions raised by the judges based on the topic presented by the groups. The projects were judged on various grounds, such as originality and relevance, development of the idea, scientific understanding of the concept, organization and drawing connection between ideas, and presentation skills. In the meanwhile, one of the judges was then invited to address the audience and enlighten the young minds. Even the parents were invited to share their views on witnessing the programme. The second session had altogether 10 presentations from Group B( IX-XII).The event proceeded in the similar manner. Another judge and one parent of this group shared their motivating views at the end. Last but not the least to mention, the programme went on efficiently with the proper coordination of the teachers and students on duty.
